Andrew Murray

Golf sensation & developer working in Scotland.

Who am I?

Hi, I'm Andrew, a full stack software developer based in Scotland, with over 13 years' experience building for the web across agency and enterprise environments.

This site is my CV, my notebook, and my best example of how I work: designed, built, tested and hosted by me.

Outside of work you'll usually find me on a golf course, at the cinema, or out cycling and walking. I also try to travel and read whenever I get the chance, and squeeze in the gym where I can to balance out all the sitting.

Have a look around. My experience and skills are on the next page, or get in touch if you'd like to chat.

What I do

I'm a .NET and full stack developer. I build websites and web apps from the database right through to the bit you click on.

Most of my work is in C# and .NET: APIs, integrations with other systems, and the front end in TypeScript and Sass. It usually runs on Azure, and I take care of the pipelines that get it live. I've also spent around ten years with Umbraco, from version 7 all the way to 17.

The part I care about most is what happens after launch. I like owning a piece of work end to end, writing it down so the next person isn't left guessing, and handing it over in a state I'd be happy to pick up myself. Code reviews and helping newer developers find their feet are a big part of that too.

This site's a good example. It's .NET 10 and Umbraco 17 on Azure, behind Cloudflare, with the infrastructure written in Terraform and automated tests that run before anything goes live.

Off the clock

Golf on a good day, cinema on a bad one, and a lot of hills in between.

  • Golf

Four hours, no screens, and a handicap that refuses to move.

  • Cinema

    Big screen or bust.

  • Live Music

    Small venues, loud.

  • Hillwalking

Munros when the weather plays ball.

  • Cycling

Long loops and short coffee stops.
